Moped Maintenance in Hawaii
Correct and regular maintenance is crucial to getting the most out of your moped. Always consult the owner's manual as certain things such as service intervals, oil specification or tire pressure may vary from moped to moped. If any information presented here contradicts your owner's manual, then you should follow the manufacture's instructions and abide by their specs. All scheduled services during the warranty period must be carried out by a Pacific Moped's Authorized Workshop (list of these workshops included in your documentation at time of sale), in order not to void the factory warranty. Pacific Mopeds reminds riders that although riding a moped in Hawaii is a fun experience, they can be dangerous if not respected. Always wear protective gear.
Before operating your moped:
- Make sure the tires are correctly inflated. Small tires lose air pressure quickly and must be checked frequently.
- Check your Front and Rear Brakes. When each brake lever is fully pulled the moped should not roll forward, if it does adjust your brakes or have an authorized Workshop adjust them.
Idle:
- If the moped will not idle or idles too fast, an adjustment screw is provided on the carburetor, turning this screw clockwise will increase the idle speed. Turning the screw counter clockwise will decrease the idle speed. Remember that an idle speed that is too fast can be dangerous. (On 2-stroke Mopeds never adjust the smaller (air screw) as this was optimized at the factory.)
Brakes
- The rear brake on your moped is a cable actuated drum brake. This style brake has proven to work well in Hawaii and is very simple to maintain. The easiest of the adjustment is to turn the rear brake lock nut (located on the left hand side of the rear wheel, below the left transmission case.) Clockwise will tighten the brake and anit-clockwise to loosen the brake. Only make adjustments at half turns making sure to not engage brake when brake lever is not pulled.
- The front brake is a hydraulic oil actuated disc brake. Regularly check the brake fluid level in the reservoir through the glass inspection port near the right brake handle. If the reservoir is empty or you observe oil leaking from the front disk brakes, have an authorized mechanic workshop check and correct the problem.
Throttle:
- Your throttle is a twist type. When the rider applies the throttle, a cable carries this motion down to the engine via a cable. For continued smooth operation it is important to keep this cable clean and free of obstructions. Should the throttle begin to feel loose and sloppy, the slack can be adjusted on the cable at the handlebars. Simply loosen the lock nut and adjust the cable tension via the adjustment screw. Once the desired tension is achieved tighten the lock nut.
